Why UV-Resistant PA66 Material Is Used in Solar Panel Cable Clips

Solar energy facilities (SEF), by nature of their installation, are exposed to the most severe weather conditions 365 days a year: intense ultraviolet (UV) radiation, extreme temperature fluctuations, and wind loads. Considering that the average lifespan of a SEF project is 25 years, even the smallest plastic component used on-site must maintain its functionality throughout this entire period.
As Tunç Automotive, a Türkiye-based exporter manufacturing solar panel clips (S-Clip for cable management and panel dust clips preventing dirt/accumulation on panel edges), we guarantee maximum durability in our projects. In the production of plastic components such as S-Clips and panel dust clips, which provide cable management and prevent dust/accumulation on panel edges, material quality is critical not only for functionality but also for system sustainability.
At Tunç Automotive, in our integrated molding facilities, we prefer PA66 (Polyamide 66)—an UV-resistant engineering plastic designed and manufactured in our molds for all solar energy plastic components we design and produce.
Why Not Standard Plastic? But PA66?
High Ultraviolet (UV) Stability: Standard plastics degrade and become brittle when exposed to sunlight within a short time. Solar installations face exactly this risk. Special UV-enhanced PA66 completely prevents polymer degradation caused by solar rays, maintaining flexibility for decades under open-sky conditions.
Extreme Temperature Resistance: Temperatures underneath solar panels can reach 70°C-80°C during summer months. With its high melting point (260°C) and thermal stability, PA66 does not deform or soften at these elevated temperatures; it continues to hold cables securely.
Mechanical Strength and Flexibility Balance: S-Clips must be flexible enough not to break during panel installation, yet robust enough to withstand wind and snow loads. Polyamide 66 is the engineering plastic that best balances these opposing mechanical properties in the industrial world.
⚠️ What Procurement Managers Should Note
Choosing standard, low-cost plastics produced below the curve to reduce costs in GES projects leads to clip breakage in the coming years, cable damage causing short circuits, and millions of dollars in production losses.
